I was able to stabilize our swan by rushing him to a local vet emergency clinic last night. The resuscitated him, giving him an electrolyte IV drip etc. Luckily today i found a woman that specializes in rehabbing large birds and birds of prey. I went to her home and she gave me a crate to carry the swan from the clinic back to her house. She is going to take the swan to a vet she works with that does specialize in avian surgery. If the vet can mend his leg, she will rehab the swan at her place along with the many other birds she has. ( An amazing woman doing a wonderful thing) I will know more tomorrow, Monday the 9th. I am hoping for the best.

One more question: The female seems lost as she was bonded with the male. What will happen to her if the male has to be euthanized? I would replace the male but i am wondering if she would bond with him, and if a breeder would send a two year old out to the freezing Hudson Valley area of NY state at this time of year. She has taken to chasing the ducks off of the open water created from the two pumps that keep the ice from freezing everything. It is a behavior i have not noticed before.

Do you have information about the female in case the male doesn't make it? Will she be ok? Will she bond with another swan if introduce one as soon as possible?
