Swan in Intracoastal waters Ft. Lauderdale Fl

This is the second day we spotted a swan around our waterways. We're worry because this intracoastal water leads to ocean and boaters go by frequently. I called just today the Fl Wildlife Center in Ft. Lauderdale. They told me he may be resting and he can fly if he wants to. I'm worry canals contain brackish waters if he needs to drink. How long can he survive in these waters? I'm checking our canals to see if he returns.
Thank you.
Clara
