Hi Patty:
Even if the cygnet lives a few more months, it is going to have a hard time surviving in the wild. If waterfowl, especially swans cannot enter or exit the water to bathe, preen, feed, escape a predator, climb and make nests or look after their young, they are doomed from the beginning. Our suggestion would be to try and find a waterfowl center which could take the cygnet and raise it in a captive setting. Captive setting would mean a protected pen with ample food and water to live its life. Many would say that this would be inhumane, but if you asked the cygnet or any other swan about the alternative of death, we would bet that they would choose a nice safe abode with plenty of attention.
