Thank You!! I immediately got a big cage and captured the cygnet with a fishing net and got it into the cage. I gave it water and some green stuff I saw it eating out in the lake. Believe it or not it actually drank and ate. I was finally given the number of a rehabilitator by the DNR and she came out. She said the injuries were so severe that it had to be euthanized. The jet ski hit it so hard some of it's insides were coming out the rectal area. It was in obvious pain. We took it to the vet and the vet was kind enough to take care of it for a minimal amount - which I gladly paid. The rehabilitator tried to catch a full grown swan that had been shot with an arrow and was in distress but was unable to. It probably died a slow and painful death. If this lake is going to have open season on Mute Swans because they are not "Native" to Indiana then they should have controls and laws in place to stop this type of cruelty!! They already coat the eggs. I think it is time to protect these beautiful creatures from the public and put professionals in the roles of reducing the population humanely!!!
