Injured Mute Swan Cygnet (by a jet ski)

I live on a large recreational lake in North Webster, Indiana. Mute swans are not protected and may be killed in any way that makes a person feel superior!! Last evening at dusk a jet ski sought out and ran over a cygnet in front of our condos. It managed to get on shore and this morning it was able to swim a little but there is definite trauma to the left side. The parents have disappeared. They had never left its side until now. I have left messages for various wildlife sanctuaries and rehabs but have not gotten a return call. Is there anything else I can or should do? Will the parents come back? I am really upset at the suffering. Help!!
