Hi,
I wrote to you in the fall about the death of the juvenile mutes either by human killing or sickness, which after much research I believe was done by an airgun and a big pellet. The question now is, the parents and the one surviving juvenile, due to I guess the mild winter we had in CT in the USA,they never left the pond. In previous years the adults would take the young out of the pond in Oct and bring them to where ever they bring them and then return to the pond until it would freeze and they themselves would go to the sound for the winter. Since the pond never froze around the edges they foraged around edges for the winter. As we watched the adult swans make a nest we knew that juniors days on the pond were numbered. Last Tuesday papa swan gave junior his walking papers. The next day I saw junior hiding in the cattails,we then had inclimate weather for a few days,so last night,Sat, in walking around we saw junior sitting in the brook that runs from the pond. not a good spot, there is no way that he can fly out of there. So this morning taking a walk with the dog, there was junior walking down the middle of the road. So with the help of several neighbors, we walked him to a neighbors house, who has a small pond in his yard, and we were able to walk him into the pond, where right now he's content. The question now is what do we do? Will he decide to fly off when he wants or do we somehow try to catch him and take him where he needs to go? And yes he can fly, we watched the whole winter as the 3 would take their daily flights around the pond. I dont want to see this poor guy walking down the road again. Thanks so much for your help
