Hi Maude

Great question! Normally, the swans will make the same sounds regardless of gender. The only difference in appearance or behavior is that the male (cob-named from the old German Knopf meaning Knob) will carry his wings up when in a defensive mode. The female will also exhibit this behavior if scared or threatened, but usually carries her wings penned back (hence the English term pennae for pen-which is the name of the female swan).

So, these would be some of the minor differences in the behavior, but vocalizations would be the same. Hope this helps. The Regal Swan
