We have never had a problem with Black Swans not incubating. There are two potential issues. One, the Black Swan pair are both female. Yes, they will still lay eggs in this pairing, but obviously will not produce fertile eggs. If this is the case, then placing the eggs under the Black Necked Swans will not work.

Two, something is wrong with the eggs, either one or both parents infertile.

If the swans are a young pair, they may not know how to take care of the eggs. If age, is a problem, it will correct itself next year as the swans age and figure out what to do.

If the problem is a habitat problem, i.e., other waterfowl or predators chasing the Black Swans from the nesting area, then you may need to capture the swans after mating, and place to them in a safe secure nesting pen which is totally encased top to bottom to prevent predators from accessing the pen. The pen should be 1/2 in water and 1/2 on land with nesting material on the land part of, the pen. The pen shold have a feeder placed inside. Let the cygnets hatch and the parents stay with the cygnets in the pen for approximately a month to bond and learn how to protect them. Then, release the family back onto the pond. Just ensure that the pen is long and wide enough to allow the family to eat, bathe, preen, sit on the nest and bank as well as to grow for a month. The Regal Swan
