We have lived on the river Itchen for 16 years and each year have watched white swans nesting and raising their young, however this year ther were no cygnets at all.

We do see the occasional black swan and for the first time today 16 Oct a pair of black swans came by with 5 cygnets maybe 3/4 weeks old, Do they normally breed this late in the year, Can they survive a winter?
