I am so sorry for you loss. It would be good to know what kind of enclosure would be safe for our swans that we are able to get inside for safety. Accidents like this must be avoidable.

Like you, I am so attached to the swans. I am still devastated by the loss of our female, Beauty. I have been focused on trying to keep Patrick alive and safe from the foxes. My husband and I have spent about $5,000 on several aeration systems to keep open a space of water for him and we also go down on a daily basis get in the lake and break up the ice. Lakes are death traps especially in winter. I will never forget the look of the foxes as they tried to get Patrick but we were determined to prevent this. The lake did freeze in the past but never for this long...I cannot understand how Beauty survived for years before Patrick arrived. Both were pinioned and unable to fly.
