Injured Swan

The swan at our community lake was somehow injured around his mouth and cheek area. It looks as a cut extending from the mouth out through his cheek. I can tell that it is inflamed. He comes up to eat as usual, however, it looks as if he can not open and close his mouth to eat the corn. I don't know what to do to help him. I am afraid that if he does not eat, he'll die. I can tell that he is able to drink water. Should I try dropping cream of wheat or grits on the water?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. We really love to see him every day.
