We have a home backing up to a 68 acre lake in Atlanta, Georgia. For the first time in 25 years a beautiful swan appeared on the lake. She/he responded to our whistles and swam within 4 feet of us as we threw small pieces of bread to her/him. How can we encourage her/him to select this lake as a permanent home and what would be the best food for her/him? What is the difference between a mute and a Regal swan? The lake is surrounded by grassy and wooded areas...is this a good environment for swans?
