Relocated lonely swan dies soon after move

Hallo.

Here in Nelson we had the most beautiful male Mute swan. He had an almost constant companion , a small white duck.

Aragorn became aggressive and finally attacked a white bate fisher woman whom he obviously thought to be a""challenger".

He was removed soon after this incident from the river where he had lived for years and driven to a location three hours or so away to private land. He had a couple of paddocks and a large pond. There were no other swans there. His little friend remained behind.

He was found dead just three weeks later. He looked peaceful and there was no apparent injury or physical trauma.

I, like others believe Aragorn died of grief and a broken heart away from his river and company he loved.

Is this likely? Is it common? Should swans ever be relocated like this with no company?
