swan wing positioning

Fantastic board you have here!

I have photographed mute swans on a number of occasions holding their wings in a somewhat heart-shaped position when seen from the front/back. Is this a sign that the birds are stressed or irritated? Each time I was at a park or riverside with many people around and was curious what (if anything) I should attribute this behavior to.
