Hi James:
Great photo. The wings are in a defensive guard position. During this time of the year, mating and nesting occur. So, males swans are becoming extremely defensive of their territory. People are seen as possible predators and the swans keep up the guard position in the event that they need to strike out to repel an encroacher. The Regal Swan
