Hi there. I live in Waterford, Michigan on a huge pond that is wetlands. We have an abundance of wildlife in our backyard including a set of swans who have been coming back every spring in the four years we have lived here. I'm pretty sure they are the same pair of swans. The male swan (I call him Mr. Swan) has always been territorial and very aggressive toward the geese who used to venture here (no longer) but toward the very end of last summer he discovered our basement window. On the ground level, he could see his reflection in the window and began pecking away at it. Fearful he was going to hurt himself, we put up a blind and that was the end of it.

Then this spring, he found the basement window beside the first one. We hadn't yet put blinds up on that one. He started pecking at it again. We put up blinds but that doesn't seem to work. He is still pecking at it. Well Mrs. Swan had cygnets about 3 weeks ago and the family will come out of the water and lay on our lawn. But after awhile, Mr. Swan goes back to the basement window and starts pecking again.

A week ago, he started circling around the house and has begun walking the length of our front yard and and crossing the street. The first time, I stopped traffic and shewed him back to the yard and into the pond. I'm so worried he is going to get hit by a car. It's a very busy street and people just fly through here.

A few days later, we saw him out front pecking at the bumper on my husband's "beloved" truck. This of course does not make my husband happy, as he has been making marks on it. I think he sees his reflection in the bumper. He still also pecks at the window as well.

So, my question is, why is he doing this and how can we stop him? I just don't want to see him hurt and my husband of course is worried about his truck.

Secondly, they started out with 7 cygnets. This past Saturday there were only 4 and this morning (two days later) there are only 3. I would have thought that at this point, they are too big to eat. Any ideas what has happened to the cygnets?
