My mother has a 1/2 acre pond and has had a young pair of mute swans. The female is crippled due to a turtle accident when young. The male got so aggressive with her after her only baby was killed by a turtle they had to give him up. They would like to keep her as she is very gentle but so lonely, she needs a friend. They have been told another female would not be good as they would both nest and lay many eggs and with no male to protect them they would not survive long. They do not want another male. They have been told the only solution is two males, which would force them to give her up. Is there any solution to her loneliness? They have a creek nearby so they feel ducks would not stay on the pond.
