Hello, I live on long Island in new York state.

A swan ended up in the middle of town, and was there for a long time. I passed the swan at 1130 at night and it was still there around 10:30 the next day, so of course it ends up on the towns Facebook page and all the heroes, chime in about saving the swan. From my understanding I thought that in the state of new York that swans were federally protected, is this true? and from what I was told you need to be certified, and or have a permit in order to move the swan to safety is this true?
