Hi Portis:
The swan may be an escapee from someone's captive setting or is a juvenile which was chased by the parents prior to the upcoming nesting season.
The swan may be slightly injured and/or cannot find its way back to its original home. We would suggest that you contact your local RSPCA, a wildlife/waterfowl facility or a wildlife rehabilitator and have them come out, capture the bird and provide it with a thorough exam to make sure that it is not sick or injured.
They will be able to find the swan a good home if the swan is not able to be released back into the wild. Normally, these escapees will be found a good home in a captive setting which will prevent the swan from getting into areas with predators or other dangerous situations. The Regal Swan
