Ask the Swan Specialist

Lone cygnet

I live in Fife, Scotland. Today on Townhill Loch, Dunfermline, I saw two adult swans, chasing a large cygnet (which I believe is normal). However, apart from the pair of adult swans, there are no others. Can the cygnet survive without a mate? or will it fly to another location?
