Hi Charlene:

At one time, we used to collect and compost the swan manure under the name L'essence of Swan. We stopped marketing the product because of lack of interest from the consumer standpoint (people did not want to make the compost tea). However, if you want a really green lawn, take the manure and mix in water and spray on your lawn, flowers or garden. You will be amazed at how good this material can be for blooms, etc.

Swans are grazers and need grass to eat, sit and dry out during the daytime. If you place anything on the grass to keep them from this normal behavior, you may cause serious health problems if the swans do not have another safe area for this behavior. Chemicals or other products that might inhibit their sitting on the ground may actually poison the swans. So, this is an issue of either fencing the area and redirecting them to another site (if there is another safe site on the lake) or put up with the mess by shoveling, washing with a hose and enjoying them in your yard. Apparently, they feel safe and secure in your area or they would not hang around. The Regal Swan
