Hi Susan:

Yes, we do recall you mentioning her age, just wanted to be sure. If there are other swans in the area, how close are they? Could she hear them or could they meet. We know this may sound crazy, but we consult at facilities where swans actually wander away from their primary pond to go to one or two across the way and then return back to the original pond before the swan keepers even know what has occurred.

Could she be stepping out at night while you are not looking or could another swan visit and then leave? Usually, males and females will stay together after mating and nesting occurs, but we are aware of mating swans in which the male does his thing and then leaves to return to his area leaving the female to take care of everything from nesting, incubation and raising the cygnets.

You will have an explanation if she sits on the eggs for 35-40 days and they begin hatching. Then, you will know that there is a rogue male running around the neighborhood!!! Keep us posted. It is getting interesting! The Regal Swan
