My black swans: father steps on cygnets, do swans see in the dark?

My 4 year old black swan pair added 4 signets to the family. Our signets just turned 5 days old now.
My questions:
1. The parents, especially the male is clumsy, he constantly steps on the signets. I am worried that they will be injured. Should I put the male in different quarters until the signets have grown enough?
2. How well can swans see at dark. Presently I have a dim light lamp in their 6ftx12ft barn. I am not sure this is enough to prevent the adults from stepping over their babies.
Thank you for your help.
