How the legs of swans can stay warm in cold water

I live in Ontario where it is very cold in the winter. Swans stay on Lake Ontario in areas that do not freeze over and remain throughout the winter months. I am wondering how their legs keep warm enough to withstand our extreme temperatures. I will appreciate a response.
