Hi Ron:

For the winter, the swans are better in your garage. You can feed them poultry layer pellets mixed with cracked corn in water. You should also feed them lettuce and some bread. Just place the food in the water so that they can eat. The swans will come out onto the ice to get their food, but this act will set them up for predation from coyotes, foxes, bobcats, etc., which will find an easy food source by climbing onto the ice and eating the swans. So, the garage is a better place for them.

You just need to occasionally spray them with water so that they can clean themselves or supervise a dunk in a kiddie pool. A kiddie pool is usually too high for the swans to enter and exit without hurting themselves (especially their legs). So, if you choose not to use the kiddie pool a good spray down with water will help as long as the water is not too hot or cold. The Regal Swan
