We are not positive the swan cannot fly, but over the past 2 months, we have never seen him fly and neither have any of the neighbors who are also keeping an eye out for him. When we first saw him, he was swimming close to, but not a part of, a large group of geese. When the geese would take off, he remained. Within a few weeks, he was swimming around as a part of a group of geese. However, now, there are many fewer geese, and he still remains.

He does not hesitiate to come up to the women, but he will approach any man with much greater caution. The first time I called to him he came right up and eagerly took bread and lettuce. He seemed a bit miffed when I offered him the apple slices (with no seeds). He is at the rivers edge almost every morning and every evening during the week, but he becomes scarce on weekends when there are boats and jetskis on the river.

Thank you for your advice. We will do our best to take care of the swan. The neighborhood has dubbed him "Swanson"
