Black & White Swans: What distance do they need to fly off water and land

Could you please tell me how much of a distance Australian Black & Mute Swans need to fly off water & land
I'm purchasing these birds that have not been pinioned
I have a large enclosure of a Dam with a 6 foot fence
Also the birds are 7 month old: are they old to be pinioned
