Hi Anthony:
There are several factors which cause any bird or animal to want to live in a specific habitat:
1. Ample Food Source
2. Ample shelter from inclement weather (i.e., trees, bushes etc.)
3. Ample shelter from predators (i.e., fencing, lack of predators, etc.)
4. Ample habitat size
5. Ample roaming size (water and land)
6. Ample water supply
7. Ample nesting supplies
8. Safety for offspring
If one of these ponds has more of these necessities, then this would be the pond that we would choose to place the birds. If there is not enough reed grasses or other nesting materials, then we would suggest using a nesting platform, especially if there are predators in the area as the center of a pond can act as a deterrent from animals trying to swim to a nest. Regardless of a nesting platform or a specific area, if there is not an ample supply of nesting materials, a good hay such as coastal hay (which is fed to horses) can be scattered in an area to attract the swans. DO NOT USE pine straw/needles as the resin can damage feathers. We hope that this information is of benefit. The Regal Swan
