Romeo and Juliette (male swan aggressive against his mate following incident)

We have a pair of mute swans on our one acre pond. They have been together for 3 years now. Our female swan was recently tramatized by getting herself tangled in a line that lead to a pump used to keep the pond free of ice this winter. My husband was able to free her and we kept her inside the barn for a couple of days so that she could recouperate. Then we brought our male swan into the barn with her for a day before we released them back onto the pond, just to be certain she was okay and strong enough to be back out there. Since we have released them, our male swan seems to be showing a great deal of aggression towards her. He doesn't want to share food with her and frequently runs her out of the pond or forces her to stay at the opposite end from him. I'm concerned that they may not be able to get over what ever it is that has him so agitated recently. What can we do to help them get along peacefully again? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
