Hi Todd:

Thanks for the update. No, males do not lay eggs so the assumption would be correct that it is a female if she is laying eggs.

We mention the point of misidentification, because many times swan keepers will mistake the bird killed as they do not have any size or egg laying reference to determine the identity. Especially if the death occurs prior to the next nesting period, swan keepers may not discover the mistaken identification until that time.
