Re: mute swan cygnets in the water all winter without parents present

I'm not sure if the parents were pinioned, but I believe that they are/were not wild swans. They have never been shown how to fly since they have been in captivity as far as I know since they were hatched April 5th, 2012 which makes them a little over 4 months old. Our winters can be pretty cold, we live in northern Pennsylvania right on the New York border. We have only lived at this house since January 2012 and the pond did freeeze all the way but we do have air-rater/bubbler/fountain going and aren't sure if that will keep the pond open for the winter. We are still learning ourselves.
Thank You.
