Bijan still spends time with Mom and Dad (Marlika and Precious) but can more often be seen surveying his world on his own, from all parts of the lagoon. It won't be long until his parents begin to build their nest for this year, and by then he will be completely independent.

Although it will be two more years before he’ll be looking for a mate to share his nest, it doesn’t slow him down in the least when showing off with traditional snorts and raised wings; not only that, he even joins his parents in chasing some of the other swans around the lagoon - he’s been watching his Dad and learning fast! He always seems so surprised when he pecks at another swan and they peck him right back – hey, that’s not how it’s supposed to work, is it?
