Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Wandering Swans (amy short)

Well, I had 2 black swans. Today I came home from work and found my swans missing. Needless to say, I feared the worst. There is a large lake north of me about 1/4 mile. My friend and I found Buck and Mimi there happily swimming. I would not be able to get the swans back without a boat. The lake is huge. I have been nothing but a good provider. From providing them with lettuce, pellets, corn and bread for treats. I even purchased straw for them to build a nest and they have shelter that they used all winter.
So, what is the likehood that they will find their way back home.? They have been with me since last July. If I make an attempt to get them, I am afraid they will just go back there at another time. What do you think is best.? Are they going to be fed pellets and corn. No. Will someone feed them lettuce like I do. NO. Realizing that they are wild birds, should I be content that they are safe or should I hire someone to help me catch them. Thanks for your concern.
