In Response To: Re: speed of a swan (The Regal Swan)

Hi Ernst:

Your assessment of speed would not be outside the realm of possibility for the flight speed of swans. In research, some state that Bewick and Tundra Swans can reach speeds of up to 100 mph with a tailwind. Mute Swans have been clocked at 50-55 mph and even faster during the migration. Remember, birds use airstreams to help them along the migratory path both towards the winter migration paths and back to the spring nesting migratory paths.

These wind currents allow the swans and other birds to reach their migratory destinations in a timely manner before the onset of inclement weather or the nesting season.

We hope that this information is of benefit. The Regal Swan
