Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: wing deformity (Kerri)

I live on a canal to an inland lake in southeastern michigan and have been very concerned about a young swan that was alienated by its family a few weeks ago. I was able to get a better look at it tonight and it appears that the swan may have been born without wings. It is able to walk and swim, but it looks like it has nubs instead of wings. It is doing the best it can to get around but I feel terrible that it may have a deformity and that it has been alienated by it's family. It hisses if anyone gets near it. Is there anything I can do to help? Thank you!
