Hi Jane:

Has anyone observed any injury to its legs or feet? Can she walk? There may be an alligator or snapping/softshelled turtles in the pond and she may be trying to escape the predators. Is she able to lift her neck? Besides trauma of some sort (did she get beaten by another swan?), then she may have some neurological problem that needs to be diagnosed and treated immediately. Is she eating? Does she seem to be depressed, stressed or run-down. If so, there is possibly something very wrong and she needs immediate care.

If you can capture her, we would suggest that you get her to an avian/waterfowl veterinarian with experience in waterfowl/swans. If there is no swan vet in the area, we can put you in contact with Dr. Geoffrey Gardner out of Lakeland. Please contact the administrator of this website if you cannot find someone, leave your phone number and we will get in contact with you. The Regal Swan
