How to feed rescued cygnet, how long to keep him?
While fisning an inland lake my son saw a flock of blackbirds swooping down and pecking at a very small cygnet - some patches of down already plucked from his head - so of course into the kayak with the now-rescued swan - there were no other swans visible anywhere on the lake... resides by day in a large dog cage partly submerged in a small goldfish pond and as it has still been cold at night, into a boxed in area in a hallway - seems OK - beeping around - pan of water to splash in and have been experimenting with lettuce, canned corn, bran muffins crumbled, so came to the site to see what we SHOULD be feeding him. Question is - how long should we keep him? Been just a few days - no signs of feathers starting on him - still just down. Have a few buddies with a lot of land and ponds on it, but would like to make sure he can take care of himself before releasing him.
Thanks.
