In Response To: Mute Swans: Behavior of cygnets and swan parents (Laura)
Hi Laura. Yes this is normal behavior. Once the cygnets reach 8-10 months of age, the parents chase them from the habitat to begin alliances with other swans their age. This usually takes place after the cygnets learn to fly and go on the migratory pattern. The young swans will meet other cygnets and pair with their eventual mates. Parents chase the cygnets from the habitat to prepare for the next breeding season as the parents do not want rival swans in the area. The Regal Swan
