Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Re: Black necked swan in Ontario (Neil)

My wife swears she saw, not one, but SIX black necked swans in the Lynde Creek marsh area here in Whitby, Ontario, CANADA. When I checked, I saw that swans matching their description were native to South America, but with Sharyn's observation earlier this year at Balsam Lake, a couple of hours north of here...one has to wonder. My wife didn't recall anything resembling the pronounced red area evident on the beak of the South American native, but was adamant that this bird was all white with a dark black neck and head. What else could it be? Comments?
