In Response To: 8 week old girl trumpeter with splinted leg; foot is reddish purple (Jeanne)

I have a baby girl (8 weeks) trumpeter who has a tendon in her leg which requires surgery to repair. In the meantime, we have her leg splinted to hold it straight behind her. She's not crying and she's eating well but her foot is reddish purple. Is the splint too tight or does that happen from keeping it straight out? I want to cause her no harm. Suggestions?
