Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: depressed swan (D Patton)

Last year there were two pairs of swans living on the pond beside my workplace - this year there is one pair and a single male.
The single male has had some recent problems - he had a swollen neck (all the way down - no specific lumps) and did not eat but seemed to drink a lot of water. A rescue service was unable to catch him but after 5 days he perked up, the swelling went down and he began eating again.
Now he fights with the other male and seems withdrawn and again is not eating much, if anything.
We are wondering if he is love lorne or there is something organically wrong.
Any advice - we don't want to call out the Wildlife Rescue service on another "wild swan chase!".
