Hi Randy:
With a 1 1/2 acre lake, you will only be able to place l pair of swans with some ducks. If the swans and ducks are introduced at the same time and you supplementally feed all of them, there should be no problem. The acreage you are referring would be too small for any more than one pair of swans especially during nesting season as the swans will become extremely territorial and will chase each other around the lake. Eventually, one pair will not be able to enter or exit the water, bathe, feed or nest, which will cause many problems for the outcasts.
If you keep a pair of swans on the 1 1/2 acre lake, you will need significantly less fenced land, but you still will need to keep them fenced to prevent predators from digging under the fencing or climbing over the fencing to access the birds. We hope this helps. The Regal Swan
