Hi there, I’m not really sure where to turn as mute swans are considered invasive to my local waterways. I’m afraid to contact the local wildlife rescue.

Anyway, there are two adult mute swans that live on m creek which empties into the Chesapeake bay in Maryland USA. I frequently feed these swans and pay close attention to their behavior.

In mid May 2017, they had 4 cygnets which eventually ended up with only 1. I believe it is a male based on everything I’ve read about them. It is now February 2018. I know the parents will be nesting and hatching new cygnets in the coming months. I’ve noticed the cygnet is now all alone. Even if he spots me feeding his parents, he will swim to the other side of the creek, only allowing me to feed him if they’re not around. I read that most swans don’t take a mate until around 2 years but I’m worried for him as there aren’t any other swans in this area and they aren’t migratory. Is there anything I can do? He seems very lonely.
