Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Re: Lone swan in freezing pond... (Chris)

Thanks. I'll add some corn to my mix. I just give them each a few handfuls a day, especially in the winter given that they have so little to eat. I also only feed it at sundown so as to not fill them up and put them off of whatever they would otherwise eat.

All the injured ones had a natural diet prior to their injuries. So I'm just giving them some to keep them on their feet. Gimpy, my goose with the bad leg (turned 30 degrees inward and slightly crumpled foot) is now doing great, and I think it was the diet. He used to get bullied all the time, but now he's about middle of the pack. I think he's stronger because or it.

Do you have any websites where you can purchase the pellets? I live in Boston, so it's not like we have a lot of feed stores around here. A four pound bag of cracked corn was hard enough to find. I almost bough a 50 pound bag of Mazuri Waterfowl Maintenance the other day, but the shipping was almost as much as the bag itself.
