In Response To: Swans mating and nesting (Charles)

We have had 2 swans on our lake for about 6 weeks but they keep flying to a friends lake about 3 miles away and then coming back.

We have started feeding them to encourage them to nest here.

Today my wife witnessed them mating - a simply wonderful experience I sadly missed.

How many times do they mate before a likely pregnancy?

How long after mating do they begin building their nest?

Do you think they keep switching lakes in order to decide which is safest for a nest?

All very exciting!!!
