In Response To: Orphaned cygnet does not eat (Tracy)

Hello. I am a wildlife rehabilitator in the US. I am unfamiliar with swans, but have a great deal of knowledge with geese and ducks. I've been given a cygnet 1 week old. I need to know what to feed it and how to get it to eat. It does not eat on its own like geese and ducks will. I've put him in water with chick starter crumbles and romaine lettuce. When he attempts to eat the lettuce, which I have cut into very small pieces, he looks like he is "chewing" it but will often spit it back out.

Since I know nothing of their behavior I really could use some insight on this. I have one of its siblings coming today so at least they will have each others company. Thank you.
