In Response To: Re: Brought black swan to our shed after lake froze (Elizabeth)

Hi Lynne,

Your poor swan!! I am so sorry. It is so heartbreaking to lose a swan isn't it? My swan is very used to me coming down to the lake to see her. She saw me coming and immediately walked over for food and water. As she got as close to land within a foot, I was able to gentle place my bathrobe over her and just have control of her wings. She was so tired, cold, and hungry..it wasn't a fight. Typically it would be. If you have control of their wings and then make a circle with your pointer finger and thumb to place around their neck, you have more control. A loose grip, no choking necessary :) We have had to catch her 3-4 times for an injury she had. she continues to forgive me after each catch. She is a very social bird, that helps. I don't know if yours is social, but maybe enticing it with food will help? I am sorry for our losses and I hope our swans can continue to go on happily. I really enjoy mine so much. We call her Blanche.
