latest update: I noticed a tiny crack in shell this morning; it had apparently "rolled" off the nest onto hard surface. When I checked again a little later there was only thin white "skin" on the ground (presumably the shell). I never realized the shell was so thin -it felt more like damp paper than an egg shell. It's sad but inevitable, since this egg was unfertilized to begin with. In any case, this very unusual problem seems to be resolved -unless Swany lays addtl eggs. Of course, I'll keep you posted.
