In Response To: Do swans re-mate after the death of a partner? (Kendall)

One often hears that swans "mate for life." I have seen lone swans, and I wondered if their mate had died. But what happens to a lone swan after some time of being "widowed"? Do they ever re-mate with other swans who have lost a mate? Is it possible for them to find another mate? Is there some period of "mourning" that seems appropriate to them, or is that just anthropomorphic?
