Hi Anne

The mother swan knows something is wrong and will try to put the cygnet out of its misery. As difficult as this is to watch, it is nature. Nature will not allow something sick or injured to lag behind to allow predators to follow and be lead directly to the family/flock. Additionally, nature will not allow something sick to remain near the family/flock and possibly infect all members. The Regal Swan
